Imagery sourced from pmr-architecture.co.uk for reference. The bespoke route would give projects like these significantly more space, atmosphere and storytelling on the new site.

We would also bring credibility and ethics to life by elevating the existing accreditations. From what we can see, these include RIBA, ARB and at least two others not currently detectable on the existing site — which, as far as we are concerned, is a failing of the current website.

Introduction

Dear Ashley,

Thank you for getting in touch and for sharing the brief for PMR Architecture's website refresh.

From reviewing your current website and the direction outlined in your email, it feels like the existing site gives us a strong starting point in terms of content, page structure and project information. The opportunity now is to improve how that content is presented, with a more modern, portfolio-led website that places greater emphasis on PMR's projects, experience, design quality and approach.

The aim would not be to start again for the sake of it. It would be to take what is already working, sharpen the brand and messaging around it, and create a website that better reflects the quality of PMR's work and the clients you want to attract.

This proposal outlines two ways we could approach the project. - Bespoke build using Wordpress - Platform connected build combining experienced human developer and assisted technologies We believe brand and website creation should be budget friendly and retain quality and flexibility.

Project Objectives

Nine focus areas shaping the refresh — taking what is already working and sharpening it around PMR's portfolio.

/01

Developing brand guidelines to support consistency across future marketing and communications

/02

Creating a more modern and visually confident website

/03

Moving the site towards a more portfolio-led experience

/04

Giving PMR's projects more prominence

/05

Improving the way the practice's experience, process and values are communicated

/06

Updating copy and image use across the site

/07

Retaining a similar page count to the existing website

/08

Exploring the addition of a company updates or news section

/09

Allowing for SEO and maintenance support through a trusted specialist partner

Our Approach

Brand first.
Then build.

Strategy. Culture. Society. Story.

At BOXLESS, we believe the brand needs to be clear before the website is designed.

We begin by understanding the practice properly: your brand, audience, values, tone of voice, portfolio and the clients you want to attract.

Our brand work uses the Brand Archetype Framework to define personality, positioning, values and tone — giving structure without overcomplicating the process.

Key questions we answer

Q.01

What should PMR be known for?

Q.02

What kind of experience should people have when they encounter the brand?

Q.03

What qualities should the website communicate?

Q.04

How should PMR sound?

Q.05

What should the visual identity feel like?

Q.06

What should the website make people feel confident about?

The purpose is not to force a full rebrand unless that is what is needed. It may be that PMR simply needs a brand refresh, brand refinement or brand toolkit that builds on the existing identity and gives it more consistency, confidence and clarity.

Why BOXLESS

Clarity before
polish.

Strategy. Culture. Society. Story.

We help organisations communicate with clarity, credibility and confidence — not just polish.

For PMR, that means a website that explains who you are, the value of your work, and why it matters — honestly, without vague claims or filler.

Proposed Website Structure

Based on your current site and the brief, we would expect the new website to include a similar number of pages, likely structured around:

01Homepage02Projects / Portfolio03Individual project pages or case studies04Our Approach05About PMR06Team07News / Company Updates08Contact09Supporting pages where required

The biggest shift

The current website contains a lot of useful information, particularly around PMR's process, team and project experience. The new site should give more weight to the visual quality of the work, making projects easier to explore and creating a stronger first impression.

The portfolio should feel like a central part of the website rather than a supporting section.

Design Process

1

Brand Workshop

2 hours

We begin with a brand workshop with the key PMR decision-makers. This stage allows us to understand the business before we design anything. The outcome will be a clear brand direction for the website and wider communications.

Current brand guidelines and visual identityWhat is working well in the existing brandWhat feels outdated, inconsistent or unclearPMR's values, personality and positioningThe type of clients and projects PMR wants to attractHow the brand should feel across the websiteTone of voice, visual direction, competitor and sector contextWhether PMR needs a light refresh, a more developed brand toolkit, or a fuller brand evolution
2

Website Briefing Workshop

90 minutes to 2 hours

Once the brand direction is clear, we run a separate website briefing workshop. From this, we create a clear website brief. This becomes the agreed foundation for the design and build stage.

Website objectives, target audiences, priority services or sectorsKey user journeys, page structure, portfolio requirementsCase study format, news/updates section, required functionalityCalls to action, copy and image requirementsSEO considerations, maintenance requirements, what success looks like
3

Brand Guidelines and Tone of Voice

Following the workshops, we will develop a practical brand guidelines document. This will not be an overly long or theoretical document. It will be a useful working guide that PMR can use across the website, social media, presentations, proposals and wider marketing. The tone of voice guidance will help PMR communicate consistently beyond the website.

Brand positioning, values, personalityTone of voice, language principles, messaging guidanceLogo usage guidance, colour and typography guidanceImage direction, portfolio presentation guidanceExamples of language to use and avoid
4

Website Design

Once the brand direction, structure and brief are agreed, we move into website design. The design will be shaped by the agreed brand direction, rather than personal taste alone.

Website look and feel, homepage designPortfolio-led layout, project page designNavigation, page hierarchy, mobile experienceUse of imagery, calls to action, overall user journey
5

Website Development

Once the design is agreed, the website will be developed. Depending on the option selected, this will either be a bespoke website build or a platform-connected website using an existing system such as Wix, Squarespace, GoDaddy or an AI-supported website builder.

6

Revisions

The proposal includes up to three rounds of revisions. This gives PMR the opportunity to review the work, provide feedback and refine the website before completion. We work this way to keep the project focused. From experience, open-ended revision processes can result in projects becoming slow, unclear and too far removed from the agreed brief. By taking time to get the brand workshop and website brief right at the beginning, we should be able to reach the final website within three structured rounds of feedback.

7

Final Checks and Handover

Before launch or handover, we will complete final checks across all areas. We will also provide a handover so PMR understands how to manage agreed areas of the site going forward.

Proposed Options

Recommended
Option 1

Bespoke Website

Higher investment, most tailored result

This is the higher investment option and would give PMR the most tailored result. It is best suited if you want to make frequent changes and updates to the website or if you want it to become a customer log in platform.

Option 2

Platform-connected Website

Lower cost, faster delivery

This option would still give PMR a cleaner, more modern and more portfolio-led website, with some limitations around frequent edits and updates. This route is more cost-effective and can be significantly quicker.Lead time 4–6 weeks

Maintenance and SEO

To be discussed further. SEO to be handled by our trusted partner BrandSalt, who we would put you in touch with.

BrandSalt — SEO, UX, Web

Our SEO Partner

BrandSalt's approach to this project

SEO at a barebones is ensuring semantics are set up correctly, structured data, headers, titles, Google tags etc. For a more in-depth SEO strategy, keyword research, content creation and guides would need creating.

There's only so much optimising you can do of existing assets — in reality the website just needs to grow and be managed regularly. PMR rank 1st for 'architects Brighton' but are not even visible on page 2 for 'architects East Sussex', for example.

We suggest an audit first before agreeing to any package with us or any SEO provider.

Client Responsibilities

To help the project run smoothly, PMR would need to provide the following:

/01

Access to any existing brand assets

/02

Current logo files

/03

Existing brand guidelines, if available

/04

Preferred project imagery

/05

Updated project copy, or clear direction for what needs rewriting

/06

Any new team information

/07

Any specific news / updates content required for launch

/08

Consolidated feedback from the relevant decision-makers

It would be helpful to identify one main point of contact for feedback and approvals so that the process remains clear and efficient.

Next Steps

If you are happy with the proposed direction, the next step would be to confirm which option feels most appropriate.

From there, we can arrange the brand workshop and begin shaping the website brief, brand guidelines and design direction.
